Brooklyn Rewilders Fall 2026 Garden Explorers Afterschool Program
Meets Thursdays, September 24 to December 17, 2:30–4:30 pm
Grades: PreK, K
Location: United Arts & Letters Garden
Schedule: Every Thursday (except school holidays and half days)
Where wonder comes first.
For our youngest explorers, the garden is pure magic. They meet it with their whole bodies: hands deep in the soil, noses in the herbs, eyes wide at a worm or a spider. They taste something they helped make, sing to the plants, and gently lift a leaf to say hello to whoever lives underneath. Wonder comes first, and everything grows from there.
What We'll Do This Fall
🌳 Make a tree friend: visit the same tree all fall and watch it change.
🐝 Become the creatures: curl like seeds, buzz like bees, wriggle like worms.
🪱 Dig and discover: dig gently in the soil to find the roots, seeds, and critters living there.
🧈 Make food with our own hands: shake jars of cream into fresh butter, fold in herbs we picked, and taste it together.
🎨 Make art from nature: leaf prints, nature collages, and a first nature journal.
By the End of the Semester, Children Will:
🍂 Understand how a garden and its creatures get ready for winter
👃 Explore with all five senses
🐝 Meet the garden's creatures with curiosity and gentleness
🤝 Practice sharing, taking turns, and daily rituals
Program Structure
2:30–4:30 pm | Outdoors in the United Arts & Letters garden
We are outside most days, light rain or shine, with an indoor classroom available for severe weather. Please send children dressed for outdoor play.
All children will:
Create a personal nature journal for the semester
Receive materials and supplies for each lesson
Take home their nature and art projects
Snacks provided.
Financial aid available. Tax-deductible donations are also welcome to support equitable programming!
