Eid Nature Camp
Date: Wednesday, May 27
Grades: Mixed-age PreK-5th
Meet: 9:00 am at the children's entrance to Central Library on Eastern Parkway.
Pickup: Grand Army Plaza, 3:00 pm
Optional aftercare: PS 9 Garden, 3:15–5:00 pm — $40 additional
A whole day in the living world
May 27 is Eid — public schools are out. We're spending the day outside.
We'll start the morning with field guides and a question: what do you most want to find today? Then we'll head to the beautiful Brooklyn Botanic Garden for the heart of the day to find native bees, butterflies, birds, and plants in full spring bloom. Lunch in the garden. Then Prospect Park for free play before pickup at Grand Army Plaza at 3:00 pm.
For families who want a longer day, aftercare runs until 5:00 pm at the PS 9 garden — digging, exploring, making art with natural materials, and quiet time in the garden.
What We'll Do
Central Library 9:00 am–10:00 am — Start with the field guides. Before we head out, we'll spend time with real bird, butterfly, and plant field guides. Kids choose what they most want to look for. Educators help the little ones. Everyone leaves with something to hunt for.
Brooklyn Botanic Garden, 10:00 am–1:30 pm — A morning of slow, careful looking through one of Brooklyn's most extraordinary green spaces. We'll move through the garden spotting and naming birds, native bees, butterflies, and plants. Everything the group finds goes into a shared record. By the end of the day we'll count together how many living things we discovered as a team.
Prospect Park 1:30 pm-3:00 pm — After lunch, time to run, climb, and play games in the park.
**Optional aftercare - please add this option separately to your cart
**PS 9 Garden, 3:15–5:00 pm — We wind down in the magical PS 9 garden. Kids dig, explore, make art with natural materials, and have quiet time in the garden.
